Now, I didn’t see this game but…what happened afterwards could have been a hell of a lot worse than it was.
So, here’s the gist of it. The rivalry between the Wisconsin Badgers and the Minnesota Golden Gophers is for a travelling trophy called “Paul Bunyan’s Axe”.
And yes, Paul Bunyan’s Axe has it’s own Twitter account.
Wisconsin currently had the Axe in their possession.
Now the way that this goes, is that if the team who currently holds the trophy, wins the game, they are supposed to take the axe and run to each goal post to “pretend” to chop it down.
The Badger’s won the game by a score of 20-7.
That’s when things got a little crazy.
Minnesota didn’t want this to happen and so in the video below, while it’s hard to see, it looks as if the entire team of Gophers are protecting a goal post.
If you look a little deeper, you can see the axe in the air.
Quite frankly, this is the fifth time that Minnesota has long to the Badgers on their home field so they really didn’t want to have to watch this whole “chopping down the goal post” thing again. I mean, c’mon, it’s like putting salt in a wound right?
Did you know the trophy used to be a slab of bacon? That sounds a lot less dangerous (and more delicious) to me. :-)
Here’s what you missed…
