Hawkeyes are Headed to the Outback Bowl 2014

Iowa vs. LSU Outback Bowl 2014

I couldn’t help but laugh just a little when I was reading the decidedly different overtones on SB*Nation coming from the LSU side (andthevalleyshook) to the Iowa side (blackheartgoldpants).

There seems to be a little bit of personal irritation with the writer Billy Gomilia when it comes to talking about the Hawkeyes (calling us fans “interesting”) – making it a little more personal that it really needed to be.

On the other side of things, BlackHeartGoldPants stuck to the stats and a ton of them.  After all, games aren’t won and lost by how someone feels are they?

None the less, if you haven’t yet read those two separate columns, the links above will take you there.

Secondly, if you’re interested in some Bowl Gear that can get here by December 24th (if you act REALLY fast), click here or the image below.

Badgers and Gophers Nearly Duke it Out

Now, I didn’t see this game but…what happened afterwards could have been a hell of a lot worse than it was.

So, here’s the gist of it.  The rivalry between the Wisconsin Badgers and the Minnesota Golden Gophers is for a travelling trophy called “Paul Bunyan’s Axe”.

And yes, Paul Bunyan’s Axe has it’s own Twitter account.

Wisconsin currently had the Axe in their possession.

Now the way that this goes, is that if the team who currently holds the trophy, wins the game, they are supposed to take the axe and run to each goal post to “pretend” to chop it down.

The Badger’s won the game by a score of 20-7.

That’s when things got a little crazy.

Minnesota didn’t want this to happen and so in the video below, while it’s hard to see, it looks as if the entire team of Gophers are protecting a goal post.

If you look a little deeper, you can see the axe in the air.

Quite frankly, this is the fifth time that Minnesota has long to the Badgers on their home field so they really didn’t want to have to watch this whole “chopping down the goal post” thing again.  I mean, c’mon, it’s like putting salt in a wound right?

Did you know the trophy used to be a slab of bacon?  That sounds a lot less dangerous (and more delicious) to me.  :-)

Here’s what you missed…
